Treating the Root Cause,
Not Just the Symptom
Animal Birth Control (ABC) is a government-recognised, scientifically proven method of humanely reducing stray animal populations through sterilisation — eliminating the need for culling.
Vatika launched Chhattisgarh's first large-scale ABC programme in 2022, partnering with CRPF camps, waste management plants, municipal bodies, and highway authorities.
Each camp sterilises 50–150 animals in a single session. Combined with anti-rabies vaccinations, these drives directly reduce road accidents, dog bites, and rabies transmission across the region.

How an ABC Camp Works
A structured, multi-day operation that is safe, documented, and government-compliant.
Site Assessment
We survey the location, estimate the stray population, and plan logistics with local authorities.
Catch & Pre-Op
Strays are humanely caught using nets and restraints, assessed by a vet, and prepared for surgery.
Sterilisation & Vaccination
Each animal is sterilised under anaesthesia and given anti-rabies vaccination by our vet team.
Recovery & Release
Animals recover at the camp site for 48–72 hours before being released at the exact location of capture.
Our Partnership Sites
CRPF Camps, Raipur
Sterilisation and vaccination drives within Central Reserve Police Force premises — improving safety for both animals and personnel.
Waste Management Plants
High-stray-density sites near waste facilities targeted for structured ABC camps with municipal coordination.
City Highways & Accident Zones
Priority rescue and ABC coverage on road corridors with high rates of animal-vehicle collisions.
Raipur Municipal Corporation
Collaboration with RMC for city-wide stray animal population management and documentation.
The Science Behind It
Sterilised dogs hold territory — preventing new, unvaccinated strays from moving in
Vaccinated animals create a herd immunity buffer against rabies transmission
Over 3–5 years, populations reduce naturally without culling
WHO-endorsed and legally required under Indian Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023
Measurably reduces dog bites, road accidents, and rabies cases
Cost-effective vs. emergency rescue and culling combined

Help Us Scale This Programme
A single ABC camp costs ₹1.5L–₹5L and sterilises up to 150 animals. It is one of the highest-impact uses of animal welfare funding available anywhere in India.
