Do you receive government funding?

No, we receive zero government funding. Vatika operates entirely on donations from compassionate individuals, corporate sponsors, and fundraising campaigns. Every rupee we receive goes directly toward animal care, rescue operations, and facility maintenance.

We primarily cover Raipur and surrounding areas. Our ambulance travels 50,000+ kilometers annually across the region. For emergencies outside our immediate service area, we try our best to coordinate with local resources or provide guidance.

No, our rescue and emergency services are completely free. We never charge for picking up an injured animal. However, donations are always appreciated to help us continue this service.

What medical facilities do you have?

Our medical facilities are still growing. We have dedicated medical wards for recoveries and post care, and a minor OT. We are looking forward to establishing an X-ray unit, in-house laboratory, and a fully equipped surgical theatre for more efficiency.

At present we have no provision for the treatment or admittance of pets. We focus on serving ownerless community animals.

Can I bring an injured animal directly to your facility?

We encourage people to bring injured animals to us, but informing us in advance is essential so we can be prepared to provide quick treatment and care. Please call our helpline at 7225888800 between 10am–8pm before arriving. Our facility visiting hours are 11am–1pm and 3pm–5pm. We are unable to admit animals late at night, which is why communicating over a call beforehand ensures clear coordination and shared responsibility for the animal's care.

What happens to animals after treatment?

After treatment, healthy animals are typically released back to their territory (following animal welfare guidelines). Animals with special needs, disabilities, or those who cannot survive in the wild stay permanently in our sanctuary. Some are also available for adoption.

Yes! We have many wonderful animals available for adoption, especially dogs and cats. Our adoption process includes an application, home visit, and adoption counseling to ensure a good match between the animal and adopter. We also run a WhatsApp adoption channel where countless animals are up for adoption. Note: we promote the adoption of Indian pups and kittens, or those abandoned or lost. We do not encourage the sale or purchase of any animal.

What is the adoption process?

What if I can't keep the adopted animal?

We follow a strict pre-adoption process that includes detailed form filling, an interview, and a home check. We do not place animals with any family that shows even a hint of a commitment issue — we believe pet adoption is a lifelong responsibility, not a trend. Only in cases of truly irreversible circumstances, such as the death of a family member, a serious health condition, or a crisis situation, will we consider taking the animal back — and solely for the welfare of the animal, not for the convenience of the adopter.

What is ABC (Animal Birth Control)?

ABC (Animal Birth Control) is the worldwide standard — the only proven humane, scientific, and legal program designed to manage street dog populations, prevent rabies, and reduce human-animal conflict. It involves surgery of both male and female dogs where their reproductive organs are removed so the animal can no longer reproduce. The Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, mandate that local bodies (municipalities and panchayats) are responsible for implementing these programs, with an emphasis on humane treatment. The process also includes 5 to 7 days of post-operative care with pain management, administration of the anti-rabies vaccine, and releasing the dog or cat back to the exact location from where they were picked up. A compulsory ear notch marking is made to identify that the animal has been spayed or neutered.

Why do you release sterilized animals back on the streets?

According to animal welfare laws and WHO guidelines, sterilized animals are healthier and help prevent new animals from entering the territory. Removal creates a vacuum that's quickly filled by new animals. ABC is the only scientifically proven method to control populations humanely.
